Quarterly monitoring and evaluation (M&E) visits were conducted to participating Siyaphakama programme schools.
The Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) visits to the participating schools as part of the Siyaphakama programme, a joint research project with the Kolisi Foundation, are an important tool for assessing the effectiveness of Physical Education and ensuring continuous improvement in teaching. As part of this initiative, the UNESCO Chair team observed 20 coaches facilitating and leading lessons in the Intermediate and Senior phases. Each coach was trained to use the KaziKidz Toolkit, a comprehensive resource that provides structured Physical Education lessons from pre-primary to Grade 7. In addition, the visits focused on evaluating key aspects of lesson delivery, including planning, implementation and classroom management.
By closely observing lessons, researchers identify areas for improvement, assess impact and ensure that Physical Education remains focused and effective. Furthermore, these M&E visits are in line with UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 4, which advocates for inclusive, equitable and quality education and promotes opportunities for lifelong learning.
Each coach underwent an objective evaluation based on lesson planning, implementation and classroom management skills. The respective supervisors are pleased that all coaches continue to show remarkable improvement and unwavering commitment in their efforts to create engaging and impactful Physical Education lessons.
